This site is dedicated to the memory of William Marshall.

Bill Marshall died peacefully at home on 22 December 2013 aged 83 following a long battle against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis of the Lung and Prostate Cancer. He taught History at Millfield School from 1965 until retiring in 1990 (head of history from 1974) and was also assistant chaplain. In his retirement during the 1990s, he was GAP (now Lattitude Global Volunteering) project manager for China arranging for many prospective undergraduates to teach english in schools in China and for teachers from China to teach Mandarin in UK schools. Idiopathic Pulmonary fibrosis is the formation or development of excess fibrous connective tissue in the lungs. It is also described as "scarring of the lung". It involves gradual exchange of normal lung parenchyma with fibrotic tissue. The replacement of normal lung with scar tissue causes irreversible decrease in oxygen diffusion capacity to the brain and the bloodstream. Treatment options for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis are very limited. Research trials are ongoing. Approximately 5 million people around the world are thought to be diagnosed with this. Please help raise awareness of this disease and support the British Lung Foundation in their research to find cures to this disease
